SARAH JONES
Referral Coordinator
I am a veterinary administrator, with over 30 years’ experience supporting vets, nurses, clients and their pets in a variety of roles, including: Nursing Assistant, Receptionist, and Referrals Administrator at a busy Veterinary Hospital on the South Coast.
In 1989 I followed my passion to work with animals and left home in the Highlands of Scotland to work as a veterinary nursing assistant in London.
I really enjoyed supporting the practice and liaising with clients and their pets, and worked as the practice receptionist handling client enquiries and booking appointments.
My administrative roles since then have also included processing claims at Petplan pet insurance, providing administrative support to an animal health team at DEFRA’s surveillance laboratory in Surrey, and managing specialist referral appointments at a busy 24-hour veterinary hospital.
when i’m not thinking about teeth
I’m lucky to share my life with my partner and Elmo, a somewhat stubborn but gorgeous Boston Terrier cross, who loves to go on adventures with me – especially if we’re following an unknown path or exploring a ruined castle or ancient hill fort!
Being outside in nature revitalises me – I love nothing more than a long walk with my rucksack on my back! For my 50th birthday I trekked to Everest Base Camp in the Himalaya, whilst raising money for St Barnabas Hospice.
As part of my training for that I climbed Snowdon, although heavy snow meant I couldn’t see a thing from the summit!
I’ve walked across Scotland on the Great Glen Way, along part of Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, and completed the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne.
I love planning new adventures with my tent and my next goal is to walk and camp across England on the 190-mile Coast to Coast path.
Drawing and painting is also a keen pastime of mine, and the beautiful countryside and wildlife of the South Downs is a wonderful source of inspiration for my art work.
